Course overview and goals

Students will be sent to an international research meeting held in Japan or abroad such as an international conference, and make a presentation and discussion over their works in English or in other non-native languages.
The aim of this course is to train the students on their presentation skills and discussion skills which are needed to become a researcher of the front-line.

Students will participate in an international conference or an international research meeting and make a presentation and discussion with other participants in English or in other non-native languages.
Students will learn academic presentation skills necessary for an international researcher.

Class flow

The participant students make a plan for the presentation/discussion, and hold a rehearsal with the academic supervisor. During the conference/workshop, the students should focus not only on their own presentations, but also on the debates with other participants. After the meeting, the students are expected to prepare the report on the outcome from the meeting, especially on the contents of the presentation and the discussions.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance the effectiveness of learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes for the preparation of the class and another 100 minutes reviewing what they have learned in the class afterwards for each class.
