Syllabus

Course overview and goals

As a Liberal Arts class, this class aim to cultivate the humanity, social consciousness, and big vision to contribute today's world. In this participation-based course, students learn the basis of the holistic human resources such as SDGs(Sustainable Development Goals), dialogue and collaboration, presentation and facilitation, mindfulness, and how to explain the major theme to people clearly.
The purpose of this course is for students to have both broad humane and social values, and to cultivate the ambition to contribute to the coming era.

Course description and aims

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1)understand the basic personal power for modern society, guideline of SDGs, basic skill of dialogue and collaboration.
2)learn the basic sill of creative dialogue and collaboration, and presentation and facilitation through experience.
3)practice the basic skill of mindfulness to be aware of here and now.

Student learning outcomes

I have a experience of 30 years' business background, 25 years' practice as a facilitator, and 40 years practice of Yoga and meditation. I aim to empower students to have holistic human energy. I encourage students to know what is happening in this world, enjoy collaboration and co-creation, and care myself and others. Because of Covid-19, face to face communication has become difficult. This is a new challenge for the on-line interactive communication.

Class flow

This year we will use zoom system.
This is a participatory course, not one-sided knowledge transmission.
We need PC rather than smart phone.

Class 1 Connection check of zoom. Overview of the class. Reflections on experiences.
Class 2 World Cafe workshop by zoom. Reflections on experiences.
Class 3 Charm and difficulty of creative dialogue and collaboration. Mindfulness practice to be here now as it is. Reflections on experiences.
Class 4 Interviewing and introducing each other to understand others deeply. Reflections on experiences. Complete interview report.
Class 5 Basic skills of facilitation for participation and collaboration. Reflections on experiences. Preparation of the presentation and facilitation.
Class 6 Practice: Presentation on each major. Facilitation of group dialogue. Reflections on experiences. Writing the final report.
Class 7 Reflection of whole process by dialogue of world cafe style Reflections on the whole process and apply it in daily lives.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
