Syllabus

Course overview and goals

This course explains the role of urban renewal that has been played in the light of urban regeneration and its evolution and variation correspoing to the changes of socio-economic condition. It also includes minimum necessary knowledge of urban redevelopment project and how planning professionals are involved in the projects.
The students are expected to understand basic knowledge of urban redevelopment, such as system, process, and finance, from both theoretical and paractical points of view.

Course description and aims

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) understand the authorized urban development system;
2) understand the project planning
3) understand ways of planning thinkings which is needed for redevelopment.

Class flow

This course will be basically by lectures, but there will be exercise problems occasionally within the class.

Class 4 Project planning and property right exchange plan Exercise project planning; Understand the definition and contents of Right Exchange Plan; Exercise simple plan-making
Class 5 Management of redevelopment project Understand the role of project management
Class 6 Presentation by students Understand the overall practice of urban redevelopment project
Class 7 Presentation by students Understand the overall practice of urban redevelopment project

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Level of understandings of knowledge necessary for redevelopment plan-making. Exercise problems (30%() and final report (70%)
