Course overview and goals
This course is for students who have successfully completed basic-level Japanese.
The aim of this course is to promote students' ability to express themselves and the environment that surrounds them by learning appropriate expressions and Japanese social custom.
Course description and aims
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. express themselves appropriately by using learned grammar, vocabulary, and expressions;
2. express their opinions appropriately or describe situations accurately by acquiring new vocabulary and skills;
3. obtain basic knowledge about Japanese social custom and manners which will help them behave appropriately in public in Japan.

Class flow
Various activities will be conducted on a specific topic at each lesson, and students will learn the necessary vocabulary and skills for the task. Students should be prepared to actively exchange stories/opinions in class.

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Students are required to attend more than 60% of the scheduled classes and to achieve a score of 60 or above to pass the course.
Grades will be decided based on:
- assignments (20%);
- quiz (20%);
- final interview (50%);
- final draft (10%).
