Syllabus
Course overview and goals
This course consists of lectures and exercises on listening comprehension of Japanese. Through listening practices focused on Japanese news, students will learn how to listen to and to discuss its contents.
Course description and aims
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) catch the keyword through listening;
2) understand the main points in each paragraph;
3) discuss the impressions and opinions.

Class flow
Listening comprehension and group discussion will be conducted at each lesson. Lectures are mainly delivered during the first half of this course, and the latter half will be focused on news materials.

| Class 5 | Listening news 3 | Practice understanding news programs by watching video footages and discuss the contents of the video. |
| Class 6 | Exercises: Making the report of the news | Practice understanding the contents of news and documentary programs by watching video footages, and sum up what you know. |
| Class 7 | Examination: Presentation of the report | Conduct some presentations on what you understand through this course. |
Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.

Assessment will be conducted based on students' homework(20%), quizzes(20%), presentations(30%), and the final report(30%).
