Course overview and goals

This class aims for the students to acquire a higher level of Japanese competence.The students are requested to introduce one of the best practices of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through reports and presentations.

Course description and aims

The following advanced skills can be acquired after this class: 1) how to manage and arrange various kinds of documents and material about a theme; 2) selective competence of the use of suitable expressions for your seminar; 3) the timing to use proper strategies to manage your audience.

Class flow

Students will learn advanced exercises and discuss them. Based on a theme which you select, you will prepare the materials for your seminar, and open your workshop.

Class 1 Guidance Describe what is a good seminar.
Class 2 Research the life of a scientist who affects your life. Briefly explain a contribution to society by a practice which you have chosen.
Class 3 Make your points clear, and prepare for your seminar. Learn how to encourage your audience to join discussions and what kinds of information should be provided to your audience to develop the contents in a seminar.
Class 4 Seminar 1 Make some comments on the presentations.
Class 5 Seminar 2 Make some comments on the presentations.
Class 6 Seminar 3 Make some comments on the presentations.
Class 7 Feedback. Read comments and discuss how to improve your seminar.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
