Syllabus

Course overview and goals

In this course students will study about the Japanese Civil Code, as one of the most important Japanese law. This lecture credit is correspond to the "Civil Law" credit that is required to entry to the official professional exams. Students who are interested in Intellectual Property Law are recomended to study Civil Code too. Students will be accustomed to use the Code book, "Ropo", helping study Japanese laws that relating to students future works.

Course description and aims

To understand the structure of the Civil Code and Basic legal knowledge. This lecture covers over all themes of civil law, including the general provisions, property, securities, contract law, tort, family law(family and testament).

Based on lacturr's experience as a researcher at the software protection institution, students can practically understand Civil Law.

Class flow

lecture on basic knowledge about every section of the Civil Code. Discussion about real judgement with small group of participants. Participants sometimes would be required to produce notebook as confirm understanding of each lectures. Using small size Code Book.
This course will welcome students who are not accustomed to Japanese-Chinese characters. Slids will be contain English terms as possible.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to take preparation and reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Prerequisites

Caution: Please participate in the first or the second class. (Without these participation, registration will be canceled.)
For foreign students. This lecture is focusing on Japanese Civil Code. Some part may be common to your countiries legal system but other may be totaly different. Please prepair youu countries introductory text book for contract law. It is helpful for your study.
Try note taking mixing Japanese and your counries language. It may be good experience to learning Kanji. (If you feel difficulty in note taking by any reasons, please consult to the university's barreir free consultant desk.)
