Syllabus

Course overview and goals

Based on the knowledge gained by taking the Information and Communication Technology for Organizational Strategy I, the role of information and communication technology (ICT) as a strategic business tool will be examined. Case studies are used for discussion, and a group work will be assigned.
Also the use of crowdsourcing that enables organizations to utilize external resources strategically will be discussed.

Course description and aims

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. understand the role of information and communication technology as a strategic business tool
2. understand the use of crowdsourcing as a strategic external resource
3. solve organizational issues by using crowdsourcing through a groupwork

Class flow

Beside regular lectures, discussion cases will be presented followed by discussion. Also, a group work and a presentation will be required for students.

Class 5 Strategic use of CS for Japanese organizations Learn about the strategic use of CS for Japanese organizations
Class 6 Use of CS to solve societal issues in Japan Learn about the use of CS to solve societal issues in Japan
Class 7 Group presentation and discussion Be able to research in the strategic use of crowdsourcing and present the result
Class 8 Spare day Used for a canceled lecture in case

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
