Syllabus
Course overview and goals
Students will be participated in the activity in a small group. They propose and try to complete their own "MONOTSUKURI" plan related to bioscience and biotechnology. The examples of the products may be easy tools to teach bioscience and technology or any other which will be useful for human society. Taking both Bio-creative design 1 and 2 is strongly recommended. advisory teachers will monthly make advises appropriately. Students who also take Bio-creative design 2 will continue their "MONOTSUKURI" and will presents their activity and products in a public contest.
Course description and aims
The goal is for students to learn basic bioscience and biotech knowledge, while also developing creative potential, and acquiring independent skills and an inquisitive spirit. Students will also develop teamwork skills (leadership, listening skills, flexibility, situation assessment skills, discipline, and stress control skills) through small-size group learning, as well as develop presentation skills for presenting creation ideas and findings.

Class flow
The main activity in class is group discussion and group work. Students will submit an activity report for each activity, and report on their progress monthly to their advisers in a report session.

Class 4 | Group presentation (goal setting) | Each group will make a 3 min presentation on social issue(s) that the group decides to tackle in this course, and obtain feedback from advisory professors. |
Class 5 | Discussion of concrete approaches | Based on the feedback obtained, each group promotes the group work. Each group will design experiments or research documents to decide concrete approaches toward goals of the group work. |
Class 6 | Experiments, document research, and their evaluation | Each group will start experiments and re-evaluate its goal setting by interpreting the experimental data and/or by researching documents related to the social issues. |
Class 7 | Experiments, document research, and their evaluation | Each group will continue to do experiments and re-evaluate its goal setting by interpreting the experimental data and/or by researching documents related to the social issues. |
Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
