Course overview and goals

This Bioprocess Engineering course is intended for 3rd year students and focuses on the use of biocatalysts in production and material transformation. The aims of this course are for students to gain fundamental knowledge of enzymes and microorganisms used as biocatalysts, and reaction kinetics and fermentation balance from an engineering perspective. Also, process operation of bioreactor using microorganisms and sterilization process are explained.

Course description and aims

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) give an overview of microbial characteristics and its utilization in industrial process
2) explain characteristics of enzyme and its reaction kinetics
3) explain characteristics of microbial fermentation and its general kinetics
4) understand bioreactor design and its operation
5) explain sterilization methods and set treatment conditions

Keywords
