Class flow

This lecture is an omnibus format by six faculty teachers, and introduces the foundation and latest research topics in Materials and Chemical Engineering as an example. Also, group discussion will be conducted on each topic.

Course schedule/Objectives

Course schedule Objectives
Class 1 Advanced processing metallurgy for up-grade material recycling system and multi-material-intended structure design. Advanced metal fabrication processes and dissimilar metal joining technologies for global environment protection are introduced with the latest related research works
Class 2 Introduction of functional materials for energy and environment Functional materials for solar light energy conversion will be introduced. Students can understand the basic principle and materials for solar cell and photocatalysis, which have already widely been applied in the field of energy production and environmental purification.
Class 3 Construction of aromatic rings to synthesize optically active aromatic compounds New trends to design and understand the principle of softmaterials are explained by intriducing the exampleas of Superelastic Organic Crystals and Ultra High thermal conductivity of Polymers.
Class 4 Thermal energy storages by using chemical reactions Undrestnding methodology of chemical thermal energy storages for utilization of renewabe, nuclear and waste heats.
Class 5 Structural Control and Function of Organometallic Complexes Please explain some organic compounds can be utilized as the ligands for metal complexes.
Class 6 Design of polymers for next generation by chemical approach The aim of this lecture is to understand the importance of chemistry to design next-generation polymeric materials with functionality such as self-healing ability and mechano-responsivity.
Class 7 Fundamental and applied research of material science / applied science Introduce fundamental and applied research of academic disciplines in each department.
Class 8 The end of term examination

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
